If you’re like many people, you’re probably a little tired of being in quarantine. It can be hard to go without seeing people, in addition to not going out and doing the things you used to do before the coronavirus changed our lives forever. But don’t think of quarantine time as lost time when it comes to your oral health! Use this time to focus on your hygiene and get your mouth in its best shape ever with these tips.
Brush More Often
If you’re in quarantine, you are likely eating more meals at home, which means you have the time (and the privacy!) to brush your teeth after every meal. This is great news for your teeth! While we recommend brushing twice a day for two minutes a day, that’s just a minimum, so feel free to bump your brush time up to three minutes, three times a day, or after each meal.
We’re not talking about making TikTok videos of the dance, we’re talking about actually flossing your teeth at least once a day. Dare you floss after each meal? Why not try it? Your teeth will thank you for cleaning that 40 percent of their surface you can’t reach with your toothbrush.
Do you use mouthwash? If not, give it a try! It’s an easy step to add to your oral hygiene routine, and it can really help freshen your breath and loosen up plaque on your teeth. Just look for a mouthwash that does not contain alcohol, as this can be very drying and can actually make bad breath worse.
Teeth looking a little lackluster? Why not try whitening them at home? With white strips and bleach trays, there are safe and effective ways to get your teeth whiter while you’re hanging out at home.
Scrape Your Tongue
Sounds painful, right? But believe it or not, tongue scraping doesn’t hurt. In fact, it helps your mouth a lot by scraping away harmful plaque and bacteria that can cause gingivitis. With more time to dedicate to your oral health routine, adding in tongue scraping at least once a day can help keep your gums in great shape so when it’s time for your next dental exam, you’re already ahead of the game!
