People have been brushing their teeth for centuries. It started with bamboo around 3000 BC in Egypt and eventually advanced to bamboo with boar bristles in China in 1498. Since then, not much has changed about the toothbrush. It’s still a handle with bristles, though now it’s made of a more appealing material than boar’s hair. But one innovation in toothbrushes in recent years has vastly improved the tool. The ultrasonic toothbrush is by far one of the best oral health innovations you can use in your oral hygiene routine. Here’s why.
Timing Is Everything
Though it’s not true for all ultrasonic brushes, most come with a built-in timer, so you always know when you’ve brushed for the minimum two minutes recommended by dentists. Of course you can go longer, but two minutes is enough time to get all your teeth clean – at least on the outward-facing surfaces (to get the in-between surfaces, make sure you floss!).
They Clean Better
Ultrasonic toothbrushes clean plaque via a vibrating pulse on the teeth that shakes the plaque loose. Between these vibrations and the circular movements your hand creates as you brush, your teeth get cleaner than they would with manual brushing and by regular electric spin brushing.
They Send Reminders
Is it time to change your toothbrush head? How would you know? Well, some brush heads that fit your ultrasonic toothbrush can tell you by changing color when it’s time to switch. This ensures you always have the most efficient brush head.
They Don’t Need Batteries
Most ultrasonic brushes are rechargeable, so you don’t need to worry about replacing batteries or throwing them in the trash when they stop working. Many even have small enough chargers that you can easily pack them in a suitcase when traveling, so you never have an excuse to not bring your brush with you when you go away.
You Can Share
Do you and your partner like the same toothbrush? As long as you swap the brush head (don’t share that!) you can share the handle of the brush and save valuable counter space and money!
